ANZ Championships Grand Final week is upon us! I am so excited; I’m like child at Christmas.
It has been a long 7 years since I have been involved in finals week, and I am going to absorb every moment of it. I was very fortunate when I started with the Swifts in 2006. I came into the side and played a part in 3 back-to-back premierships; 2006, 2007 and 2008. I thought it was “normal” to be apart of the final week of the netball season.
It wasn’t until going through the roller coaster of the past 7 years, that I have come to really appreciated the special opportunity a player gets to be involved in a Grand final, and the amount of hard work dedication and commitment by a team to make it to the final 2.
And that is where the NSW Swifts are this week, the final 2. On Sunday we come up against the QLD Firebirds, who rightfully finished the season in first place, and earnt the right to a home grand final.
We will be making the trek up to Brisbane on Friday, our 5th week on the road, and we can not wait to hit that court and show the ANZ Championships what this Swifts team is made of. This team is a special team, a team that for the past 8 weeks has been playing for their lives, only 8 weeks ago we were sitting 4th in the Australian conference, and each game from then on, become a do or die for us. So we know how to play the big game, we know how to play with the pressure on us, and we know how to fight for one another out there on court. I just can’t wait- can you tell??
You can follow my last moments of the grand final week through my social media; facebook, instagram and twitter; where I will be posting photos to give you some insight to how my Grand Final week looks!
