OFF SEASON TRAINING FUN

by Susan Pettitt / Friday, 31 October 2014 / Published in Uncategorized

So with the netball season all finished for 2014, it’s still important to practice your skills. This is the perfect time to work on individual skills, so to strengthen both your strengths and weaknesses.
Its also important to have fun, one of my main messages to the kids I coach; if you not having fun, why do it?
So this months skills are incorporating fun into the two drills!

Partner Get Up

Starting on the round with your partner, you both are sitting on your bottoms, back to back. Grab a netball and place it in between your backs.

Once you have set it up, you are now not allowed to use your arms or hands to touch the ball, and working together both players need to stand up without dropping the ball!
Important to work closely as a team and to communicate with one another.
Once you have mastered this, see if you can race against other players, or race against the clock!
Good luck!

Down and Up

This drill you start by standing up. Have the ball bouncing, controlled in your right hand. While you continue to bounce the ball, you work your way to the ground and sit crossed legged on your bottom. Once you sit down, you switch your hands, and continue bouncing the ball in your left hand and then make your way back to the standing position.

If this is easy! The next (and harder) step, is to try and lay down on your belly while continuing to bounce the ball.

Once you have mastered this, see if you can race against other players, or race against the clock!
Good luck!

I hope you had some fun with a few new ball skills, and remember keep practicing over the netball off season!
